Where Vintage Meets Modern: Inside Rebel Interior Design

We caught up with Rebecca Kerry, the founder of Rebel Interior Design and Property Staging, a Sheffield-based interior designer known for her confident, character-led approach to interiors.

Rebecca’s design style blends vintage furniture and antiques with modern pieces, creating spaces that feel contemporary yet full of personality. Her work is defined by the balance of old and new, mixing clean lines with pieces that have history and a story to tell.

She has been working in the interior design industry for around five years, after previously spending her career as a broadcast journalist and newsreader. That background has shaped her ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, something that carries through into her design work today.

Rebecca has always been drawn to vintage and antique pieces, and she believes their resurgence is well deserved. For her, these items bring individuality, craftsmanship, and depth to a space — something that can’t always be achieved with mass-produced furniture. Each piece adds character and creates a home that feels truly personal.

Inspiration comes from everywhere. Rebecca draws ideas from interiors magazines, Pinterest, shops, art galleries, hotels, and restaurants, as well as her travels. One of her biggest influences is nature, particularly when it comes to colour. She believes that bold colour combinations often work best when they’re inspired by the natural world - after all, nature rarely gets it wrong.

When it comes to colour, Rebecca’s signature addition is black. Used sparingly, she sees it as a way to add drama, contrast, and definition, helping to frame a space and elevate the overall design.

Her advice to first-time buyers is simple: ignore trends and focus on what you genuinely love. Rather than copying what’s popular or what others are doing, she encourages homeowners to think about how they want their space to feel and to trust their instincts when making design choices.

Rebecca isn’t one to follow rigid design rules. Her philosophy is straightforward - if you love something, use it. Creating a home should be personal, not dictated by what others think.

One of her favourite parts of the job is working directly with homeowners, as well as with property developers and estate agents through property staging. Transforming empty houses into welcoming, lived-in spaces that help buyers imagine themselves there is something she finds especially rewarding.
